Transport tickets change - T-mobilitat

Cards can still be purchased at ticket machines and official points of sale, but the old-style cards as you knew them will be replaced by the new T-mobilitat cards. The T-mobilitat cards available at machines and points of sale will be a cardboard model that you can buy at regular machines. They will cost €0.50 and the main difference is that they are reusable and support contactless validation.

The change is being gradual at the ticket machines on the network from November 28th. Later, it will be implemented at official points of sale such as kiosks or tobacconists. In any case, the change will not affect you much; you just have to go to the machine or point of sale as you normally do and buy the new T-mobilitat card. The only differences are that you will now have to pay an additional €0.50 in addition to your regular fare, validation will be done differently, using contactless technology, and it will be reusable and not single-use.

Yes. All cards in the new system have a contactless chip, so you will need to access transport simply by touching the card on the validation plate or the illuminated screen until it lights up green and emits a confirmation sound. It will be a quicker action than what you were used to doing.

You can continue to travel with the cardboard cards you have until they are exhausted or expire, which will happen on February 29, 2024.

What we are eliminating is the old magnetic stripe system. The T-mobilitat system also includes a model of cardboard card with a contactless validation chip, the same technology as the plastic card, and it will also be rechargeable. This type of card is designed for occasional passengers, tourists, or visitors who want to travel at a specific time without the need for prior arrangements. However, this card has fewer advantages than the personalized card or using a mobile phone (Android).

You can buy it directly at the transport network ticket machines, with your preferred transport pass already topped up. You don't need to complete any prior procedures.

Firstly, the anonymous card will not allow you to top up some passes like T-jove or passes for single-parent and large families. Additionally, the T-mobilitat cardboard card is rechargeable, but you have to finish the current pass before you can top up a different one. The anonymous card also does not allow you to recover your journeys in case of loss or theft. Furthermore, the personalised card is much more robust and durable.

Anonymous cardboard cards have a 6-month warranty; if they are damaged during this period, you can request a free replacement at a station agent or service point. If they are damaged after the warranty period, you will need to buy a new one for €0.50.

If you have a free or reduced-rate Targeta Rosa, or a companion pass card, you will receive information when these social tickets from AMB also become contactless. For now, you can continue travelling with these cards as usual.

If you need to purchase a T-4, you can still do so at metro ticket machines or tobacco shops.
